A dream. This is how everything big in your life begins, doesn't it? Back in the day when I was going to school, I always knew that I wanted to start a business, but I never really know in what. I had always been interested in food - good food. While it was always something I enjoyed, it wasn't until I moved to BC that I really knew it was my passion.
Growing up in Newfoundland, cooking and baking was all around me. My aunts and mom would sit around the table and share recipes, writing down their favourite on little index cards to be tried and perfected, time and time again. Then when I was spending time with my grandmothers, one was a star bread baker (seriously, nothing even comes close to what she created) and the other was all about cakes, cookies and fancy food. It was all around me and I absorbed as much of it as I possibly could. And of course, enjoyed all that was being prepared including the licking of beaters (YUM!). It wasn't until I moved to BC that I really realized how important all those childhood kitchen memories were. That, coupled with the local food movement I was drawn to within a short period, I was on the road to what is now, cracker land! Why Crackers? Well, why not, really. They are a perfect snack accompaniment, or even a meal. When I was searching for a cracker that had only good ingredients but also tasted great, I didn't find much. Anything I did find was just not what I wanted or expected. That was when I decided to take matters in my own hands (as the story usually goes) and voila! Jenny Marie's Cracker Company was born. All the crackers are made by hand, baked fresh and packaged by myself and my 2 amazing employees. You can taste the love that is put into the crackers - as cheesy as that may sounds. Cheese.... Today you can find us in many stores in and around Victoria, up island, some of the gulf islands and parts of the lower mainland, interior and even 1 lovely cheese shop in Whitehorse, YK! We are slowly making our way, and prefer to do it just that way. We started out in farmers markets and continue to be at the Moss Street Market during the months of May - October as well as the holiday market in December. Staying close to our roots. |
